Bringing The Cloud To You
One of the more controversial issues facing employers today concerns the presence of mobile technology within the workplace. Some businesses have opted to embrace the devices and their benefits, while others have banned their use while on company time. However, whether a company decides to allow use or not, employees will probably bring their personal devices and use them while on company property.
But why would a company want to encourage such a distraction?
In a recent study conducted by the American Records Management Association, statistics showed that 70% of employers that embraced a BYOD (bring your own device) policy and integrated their mobile/cloud technologies realized a significant return on investment. Additionally, of the businesses surveyed, nearly 60% considered their use of mobile cloud technologies to be “very important or critical to creating a competitive advantage for their organizations long term future.”
The benefits being realized come in two main areas. First and foremost, as employees embrace smartphone technology for their personal use it reduces the amount of spending required on providing these devices for individuals. Integrating existing personal devices provides huge cost savings over company purchased devices, with a greater rate of adoption. Additionally, 60% of respondents in one survey reported that their use of their companies existing cloud technology increased substantially by being able to access it on their mobile devices. This allows for a greater return on investment for those cloud technologies – but only if your cloud software supports mobile devices.
