Business Continuity Plans and the Rise of Cloud-Based Data Recovery
According to AT&T’s Annual Business Continuity Study, released June 2013, 87 percent of organizations have a business continuity plan in place in case of a disaster or a threat; more than three quarters of those (76 percent) are utilizing or plan to invest in cloud-based solutions for data recovery as part of that plan.
Meanwhile, 62 percent currently use cloud services as part of their corporate infrastructure, which is an increase of 11 percent over last year. AT&T cites a rise in IT budgets and increasing concern over data breaches for the rising use of cloud services.
Interestingly, it isn’t necessarily fear of a loss due to a data recovery failure, but rather security that drives the fears of corporate executives. Here are some more statistics from the study:
-63 percent of those surveyed cite the looming threat of security breaches as their most important security concern for 2013
-88 percent understand the increasing importance of having a business continuity plan in place
-84 percent are concerned about the use of mobile networks and devices, and their threat to security (aka, BYOD)
-49 percent utilize cloud services for data recovery
-66 percent are considering using cloud services to augment their business continuity strategy
The concerns over security are fair. Until recently, however, there was also a great concern that the cloud wasn’t much safer than an employee with conducting company business on his or her personal iPad. It would appear that tides is shifting.
While cloud backup services clearly are gaining confidence as a data recovery solution, I’ll remind you here once again that TDV Cloud, powered by Asigra, is the most secure agentless data protection platform in the industry.
TDV Cloud is FIPS 140-2 Certified, and Asigra has a zero-breach record in more than 20 years. Autonomic healing and compliance with Sarbanes Oxley, HIPAA and Gramm-Leach-Bliley and others are just a few reasons to feel secure using TDV Cloud for business continuity planning and data recovery.
