Cloud Backup is on the Rise
According to a recent post on Channelnomics.com, cloud backup is on the rise.
A survey commissioned by Asigra Inc. shows that most companies rely on hybrid solutions for backup and recovery (BURR).
The article reports that 66 percent of Asigra’s survey respondents use some form of physical device backup solution, while 41 percent use a virtual machine backup. Another 38 percent rely on tape backup, while 24 percent have a cloud or online backup solution on hand. Only 7 percent use USB hard drives for backup.
The prediction is that demand for software-as-a-service and cloud-based backup services will dictate a movement toward more comprehensive BURR solutions.
The article goes on to state that only 10 percent of respondents indicate a cloud application backup solution by itself would meet their needs, but that figure could rise in the near future.
“There’s overarching cloud market trends,” the article states, “and by almost all reports, cloud adoption is just hitting its stride. A recent IDC report indicates the cloud software market reached $22.9 billion in 2011, representing a 30.9 percent CAGR. That figure is expected to reach $67.3 billion by 2016 at a 24 percent CAGR.”
