Remote Work Environments Raise Security Concerns
If you’ve seen the movie Up In The Air, then you know some of the perils of working on the road. Late nights, hectic travel schedules, and personal stress can all contribute to a lack of focus when it comes to completing the tasks assigned; eventually resulting in a potential human resources issue. But with this set of concerns also comes a new one: accidentally compromised business data.
It appears that employees on the move have more issues keeping track of their devices than previously reported. According to a study, one-third of all office workers admit that they have lost unsecured and unencrypted mobile devices in a public place, and the actual number may be higher if one allows for falsified reporting. Compounding this admission is the fact that 75% of respondents acknowledged that they had taken sensitive information out of the office for work purposes, yet did not utilize password protection or other security methods to ensure it’s integrity. With these two trends intersecting in the modern work world, they paint a very concerning picture of a staff not concerned with the security of sensitive corporate documents.
At the same time, the employees of the offices are not entirely to blame. During the same survey it was revealed that less than fifty percent of businesses provide their staff with mobile security systems, leaving the users to find solutions on their own. This devolution of responsibility can lead to a lack of consistency across an organization, opening up the potential for data breaches in the near future. But finding a flexible system that can meet the needs of both home office and mobile workers can be hard – or so it is claimed. Here at The Data Vault, our cloud computing solution has both the security and flexibility to meet the needs of any sized organization. Through protecting data while on the move and in the office, we can offer you the comprehensive protection that you’ve come to expect from enterprise grade software.
